One Down Four Up is not a work of fiction, but a collection of true stories that literally fell out of my own autobiography. I never set out to write a book about motorcycles, but as I started pulling my life stories together, it became clear that my passion for riding was at the center of several major life events. Motorcycles changed my career trajectory, gave me a permanent disability, and taught me some of the hardest life lessons I've ever learned. Yet, despite it all, I continue to ride. Recently, a few readers gave me personal feedback that completely changed my perspective on the book. They saw a theme I hadn't even considered: self-actualization. In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, self-actualization is the point where a person lives creatively and uses their potential to achieve self-fulfillment, often through a passion. These readers looked introspectively at their own lives to identify their passions, and they felt I had achieved a degree of self-actualization through motorcycling that they aspired to reach. This concept never crossed my mind before, but now it makes perfect sense. For me, riding a motorcycle is more than just a hobby—it's my passion, the way I achieve self-fulfillment, and ultimately, how I reach self-actualization.

Just about to achieve Self-Actualization - Again!
