I had an email yesterday, Saturday 19th September, from John Esposito, a friend who organizes Bikes & Breakfast at Clifton, Virginia. John was inviting me to the annual car and bike show benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The event was called Carz Cruizin to Cure Cancer, a nonprofit organization who were holding their 10th event on Sunday, 20th September, about 15 miles away in Dulles, Virginia. The weather was looking good, so I decided to polish up the Moto Guzzi V11 Sport on Saturday night in preparation to show it off for the first time at a judged show. At 8am on Sunday, the ride out to Dulles was a cool 'wake me up' 42F (6C), but the sun was shining, and the humidity was low. It was a perfect Fall Day. The Moto Guzzi loves early starts and couldn’t get enough of the cold air, taking huge deep breaths every time the V Twin motor completed a cycle. When injected with 91 octane the string of horses was unleashed and we had arrived at the venue not long after we had set off. The Batmobile limo was there of course (this is America after all), but the show had something for everyone; old, new, unusual, trucks, hot rods and of course motorcycles (2 and 3 wheeled variants). The Guzzi was parked in a bit of a lonely spot (Entry number 150 of 150) as we were not pre-registered. However, that just made the Italian Stallion stand out even more. The judges loved it, and we came away with 'Best 2 or 3 Wheels' at the show. The Guzzi and I were both grinning from cheek to cheek on the statelier ride home. Great result, lovely people, awesome weather, and a fantastic cause to be involved with raising thousands for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Thank you Carz Crusin to Cure Cancer.
